Pique Assiette Mosaic
Welcome to the wonderful, colorful, intriguing world of Pique Assiette Mosaic. My pieces are made mostly from very old china shards collected from area antique shops, junk stores, our local Salvation Army Store, E-bay, tag sales, estate auctions, and from the basements and attics of friends and clients. This season I'll be creating unique garden art, some amazing wedding and mother's day gifts of all white shards, pearls, and rhinestone jewelry, as well as some new colorful boxes, bowls and mirrors.
I frequently update my instructions and e-book, so that you can learn to make mosaics. Half the fun of Pique Assiette is in the search for materials, see my "how to make mosaics" section for more about that. I've recently added instructions for a mosaic yard art project, a mosaic folk art shovel, to Google Knol, if your interested in adding some whimsical fun to your garden.
I'm particular about the shards I use; very old shards more beautiful in color, crazing and texture. Decoupaged old photos, post cards, and other images add even more interest to a piece. Vintage rhinestone jewelry, silverware, Capodimonte flowers, birds, bottles, and anything else imaginable round out creations that can be tailored to create a deeply personal creation for a loved one. Grout is custom-colored to highlight the shards.
My work has been featured in Country Home Magazine, Nature's Garden Magazine, and other midwestern publications. I sell my work to unique shops and galleries throughout the United States through the wholesale fine-craft distribution site, Wholesale Crafts.com.
